Today we discuss a topic closely related to production: why are logistics and warehousing so important in the production of electrical panels?
Naturally, this is true for all production and industrial companies, as these two areas encompass all activities and processes that allow for the storage of goods and their proper handling.
The warehouse is home to various components, so it can be considered a pivot around which the actual production of electrical panels revolves, especially during the assembly phase.
The fundamental pillars of warehouse logistics are as follows:
- Maximize the available storage space;
- Optimize material handling;
- Establish a coherent order of goods that facilitates the work of the operators;
- Maintain high safety standards in warehouse logistics management;
- Use specialized software for management to digitize and automate manual operations, providing valuable data for business management.
The Kanban Method for Inventory Management
The Kanban method for inventory management has Japanese origins. It was developed in Toyota‘s manufacturing plants and is part of the Just-in-Time system, which is used to make the procurement and replenishment of stock more efficient.
The ultimate goal of the Kanban method is to align production capacity with demand, thereby avoiding delays that can arise between processes.
Everything starts with an order received, each Kanban (which means ‘card’) defines a product or component and indicates where it comes from and where it needs to go.
Essentially, only the necessary parts are sent to production, replacing those that the production processes have requested.
For example, a container with a card identifies a specific component. The operators fill the container with the exact number of items needed for a particular production run.
Once production is complete, the container, or Kanban, returns to its original place and is filled with the other items needed for the next order.
This method helps to avoid wasting time and resources while keeping the flow of production under control, as well as the inventory levels in the warehouse, which is essential in the production of electrical panels.
Targeted Supply of the Warehouse
During the pandemic, businesses faced immense logistical problems, and even though things have now returned to normal, that experience has led companies to deal with the proper management of inventory.
At that time, our company chose to supply the warehouse by increasing the stock of key components to avoid production downtime.
Today, the ZD warehouse can rely on goods supplied in the right quantities and always of the highest quality, ensuring that the production of electrical panels can be punctual in execution as well as in the delivery times of the finished job.
Safety in Warehouse Management
Safety in the workplace and the safety of the completed work is an essential prerequisite for any company.
For this reason, we have committed to obtaining the prestigious Designing for Compliance in Industrial Control Panels certification, UL 508A (3rd Edition).
This certification, achieved after rigorous training, selection, and passing safety tests, requires constant quarterly monitoring by UL inspectors for its maintenance.
This ongoing commitment translates into a certified safety quality and faster access to global markets thanks to UL’s international reputation.
In conclusion, the production of electrical panels depends on a multitude of factors, which includes, overall, effective logistical management of the warehouse.
One aspect that deserves emphasis is the orderliness and willingness to keep the premises clean to ensure high hygiene standards and allow operators to work optimally in an organized environment, both in the workspaces and in the storage areas for individual components.
