The theme of waste compaction is very current, in the light of attention which is more and more directed to the safeguarding of the environment and the natural resources.

Numerous studies have shown that recycling is one of the most efficient actions to reduce land use.

Research of the circular economy diffused by the European Parliament speaks about a percentage of urban waste to be recycled which will pass from the current 44% to 55% in 2025, up to 65% in 2035.

In particular, the European laws which promote this industry report that by 2025, at least 55% of domestic and commercial urban waste should be recycled.

The goal will increase to 60% in 2030 and to 65% in 2035, with 65% of packaging materials to be recycled by 2025 and 70% by 2030.

This data often clashes with an objective reality which is very different, but the commitment of one can become the commitment of all, especially if the attention for the environment involves the field of work.

ZD invests in waste compaction

Among our Company objectives is the reduction of our direct and indirect environmental impact, and for this reason we have chosen to introduce waste compaction through the use of a specific machine.

Specifically, we are aware that packaging materials like paper and cardboard are among the products which are more easily recyclable as long as they arrive at the appropriate industries correctly.

In this context, by compacting packaging materials by on average 10 times, it is possible to reduce by the same proportion the number of trips required to transport the material from our warehouse to the plant where it is recycled.

As a consequence, the consumption and emissions of CO2 are reduced and also traffic congestion decreases and its consequences are limited, for example the level of fine dust pollution.

The Vertical press Orwak

To reach this aim we have therefore chosen to purchase the vertical press Orwak, which allows us to compact cardboard with results of great efficiency.

The system offers remarkable results from an ecological point of view and it is economically advantageous for the company.

Thanks to the press, we have effectively saved space, time, handling and transport costs, allowing us to quickly pay off the investment made.

The Esg principles move the future

To produce 1 tonne of paper 15 thousand trees are needed, as well as over 400 thousand litres of water and 7,600 kWh of electric energy.

To produce the same amount of paper in recyclable form, 1,800 litres of water and 2,700 k kWh of electric energy are enough.

This is only a simple example of the benefits which the industry of recycling can bring to the environment and to the people, given the interest which is being generated on the international scene.

Attention is in fact moving towards the Esg principles, that is Environmental, Sustainability and  Governance.

The environmental and sustainability principles are followed nowadays by more and more companies, but they also involve the final consumers, who are becoming more and more aware in their choice of purchase.

There are tangible examples of daily consumer goods like foodstuffs, moving on to fashion, small furnishings and the automobile sector and energy suppliers.

When companies choose to move towards sustainable products for humanity and the environment, they thereby show a willingness to take part in a virtuous cycle which helps the planet and its inhabitants.

Waste compaction fits in this context and acquires a double value, because it helps us to improve our company performance, but at the same time works towards the respect and safeguarding of recourses, which are indispensable for all citizens of the world.
